The effects of cannabis oil in combination with alcohol

The effect of medicinal cannabis is different when combined with alcohol. Cannabis strongly strengthens the effect of alcohol. Both the effect of alcohol and cannabis on the brain has been extensively investigated. Before we discuss the effect of cannabis oil in combination with alcohol, it is useful to know that a distinction is made between the most important substances in cannabis. CBD (cannabidiol) is one of these active substances in cannabis, this substance is not psychoactive and therefore also legally available in the Netherlands. THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the other active substance in cannabis, on the other hand, is best known for its psychoactive effect. Cannabis oil (also known as cannabis oil or THC oil) has a more powerful effect in, for example, pain or disorders. Both active substances can help against autoimmune diseases, epilepsy and nerve pain.

The combination of cannabis and alcohol

What is important to know is that both are psychoactive substances that differ enormously. THC acts on the cannabinoid receptors in the brain that induce cognitive effects such as a "disrupted" sense of time and a sense of physical and mental relaxation. Alcohol causes your nervous system to be suppressed, reducing motor skills. Researchers discovered that the effects of both substances reinforce each other, a person who had consumed alcohol followed by the use of cannabis had twice as much THC in the blood as others who had not consumed alcohol. Also, the "high" feeling after consuming alcohol is often experienced as more extreme.

CBD and alcohol

CBD oil contains no THC and is therefore not psychoactive. CBD does have a relaxing effect and alcohol consumption enhances this effect, and it is therefore wise to drive a car or participate in traffic after combining these two substances.
